Not Even Going Into Labor Could Stop This Mom From Finishing Her College Finals

Nothing will stop Nayzia Thomas from trying to graduate at the top of her college class, and that includes going into labor. Nayzia, a sophomore studying psychology at Johnson County Community College in Kansas City, MO, shared a photo on Twitter of herself finishing her finals right before giving birth. The new mom explained in her tweet how the picture perfectly summed up her pregnancy: "My mom took this pic and it's the perfect explanation of my life. Yes, I'm about to have a baby, but finals [season] ain't over yet."

Although Nayzia attended her classes until she was 39 weeks pregnant, she was forced to put her study skills into overdrive when she learned her son would be making an early entrance into the world. She powered through her last exam on dissociative identity disorder and submitted the finished product to her professor right before giving birth to her son, Anthony, on Dec. 12.

"[The exam] wasn't due until the end of the week . . . but my goal was to try to have everything done before [having the baby]," she told Yahoo Lifestyle. "[I thought] 'before all this gets crazy let me hurry up and finish this final.'" Talk about dedication.

Although Nayzia wanted to get her last final out of the way so she could completely focus on her journey into motherhood, she also did it to prove an important point. "School is so important to me," she explained, noting that she was taking courses and working three jobs when she found out she was pregnant over the Summer. "I didn't want [the pregnancy] to be in the way. That's what people expect. You're a teen mom, you're a young mother. That's why my mom took that picture. It shows [I] follow through."

She sure does.

Even though her new bundle of joy was born healthy, Nayzia had some complications while giving birth that required her to have a blood transfusion. She updated her followers to explain the situation while also noting that she found out she finished the semester with a 3.5 GPA.

The family is finally home from the hospital, and Nayzia is planning to take a month off to care for her sweet newborn son. But at the end of the day, nothing will stop this new mama from graduating. "My mom was a single mom," she said. "We're all three in school and getting our degrees." Congratulations to the happy family!
