After 1 Mom Gave it a "Last Try," She Finally Welcomed Her Rainbow Baby

When Alicia Caldwell and her husband were ready to try for a second baby, the process wasn't nearly as easy as it was the first time around with their little girl, Scarlett. Alicia endured two miscarriages and was on the verge of losing all hope before getting pregnant with her rainbow baby, Saylor.

"I told my husband it was going to be our last try, that I couldn't emotionally handle losing another child," Alicia told Parents. "However, I wanted another child desperately. And we got pregnant again . . . my issue was never getting pregnant, it was staying pregnant. I felt guilty that I never felt excited. [I was] just waiting for something to go wrong pretty much up until the day I gave birth."

Since welcoming baby Saylor, the mom of two now knows that the immense pain was worth it to get to where she and her family is today. "She is my beauty that has appeared in the midst of the darkness and clouds," she added.

In order to help other parents hopefully come to this happy place, Alicia planned a powerful rainbow newborn portrait to not only show the light after even the darkest storm but also to let others know that they aren't alone if they are still in the dark. "It was a way to share my loss as well as my gratitude," she said. "It's a bittersweet combination of personal pain and joy. Every time I look at the photo it reminds me how truly blessed I am, and how all the pain I endured was worth it."
