This Photo of Infant Twins Hugging Is Going Viral Following the Death of 1 Baby

Twins Mason and Hawk Buchmeyer were born on Aug. 18 in Gainesville, FL, and shortly after got the attention of thousands of people through a Facebook photo of them hugging 11 days after their birth. The sweet photo, which features a smiling Mason with his arm draped over Hawk, is now heartbreaking to look at, as a few days after the photo went viral Hawk passed away.

Hawk was born with Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia — which occurs when a hole in the diaphragm allows abdominal organs to move into the chest, leaving little room for the lungs to develop. Although the Buchmeyers hoped for the best, they were not given false hope and knew their time with Hawk could be short. A post to the boys' Facebook page in the early hours of Sept. 7 alerted followers to Hawk's passing.

"Our hearts are saddened this morning as our sweet little man was called home to be with Jesus," the post says. "He went very peacefully and we know he's no longer suffering. Please give us some time to grieve and try to start the healing process."

Although Hawk never left the walls of the University of Florida Health Shands Hospital, his short life has made an impact on so many people through the beautiful photo of him and his brother.
