Sarah Michelle Gellar Reveals Her Battle With Postpartum Depression: "I Got Help"

It's been years since Sarah Michelle Gellar captivated as Buffy, but she's still slaying. The 40-year-old mom of two is candidly opening up about her battle with postpartum depression, and she's slamming the idea that it is a preexisting condition, as per President Donald Trump's new healthcare plan. Gellar recently took to Instagram, sharing a throwback photo with her now-7-year-old daughter, Charlotte, revealing that she struggled immensely after giving birth in 2009.

"Having kids is wonderful, and life changing, and rarely what you're prepared for," she captioned the photo. "I love my children more than anything in the world. But like a lot of women, I too struggled with postpartum depression after my first baby was born. I got help, and made it through, and every day since has been the best gift I could ever have asked for. To those of you going through this, know that you're not alone and that it really does get better."

She has exposed her own struggle as a way to bring attention to the undeniable struggle of postpartum depression and in doing so has a request for her fans. "And if you believe that postpartum depression should be covered by healthcare, please take a moment and go to callmecongress.com today, find your rep's numbers, and let them know. #NotAPreExistingCondition," she wrote.

Gellar is not the first celebrity mom to open up about postpartum depression. It's something that so many new moms struggle with, and we hope that her and others speaking out about it inspires recognition and change in the healthcare industry.
