The House of Alexander McQueen is bringing back one of its most iconic runway designs: the Armadillo Boot. The jaw-dropping 12-inch heels debuted at the Spring 2010 show titled Plato's Atlantis. Now, three pairs of the futuristic boots are to be auctioned off in the Christie's Handbags & Accessories Auction. All proceeds from the event (which runs today through July 23) will benefit UNICEF's earthquake relief effort in Nepal.
The Armadillo Boot name derives from the unusual shape and armor-like appearance of the handcrafted design. And while they appear to be fairly uncomfortable, brave stars including Lady Gaga and Daphne Guinness have dared to wear them before. So, if you're looking to own an iconic piece of fashion history, these boots may be just the thing — there are only 21 in existence, after all. All you need is a cool $10,000 (that's the starting bid for these beauties). Read on for a look at the mesmerizing design, and weigh in: will you head to Christie's website to place a bid?
