I Wore Denim to Work Every Single Day, and It Looked Way Better Than I Thought
I typically equate denim looks with mornings when I have 15 minutes to walk the dog, brew a cup of coffee, and get ready for work. Those mornings — the rushed ones where I accidentally feed my dog java — are about survival. Getting to the train on time and relieving my pup are the high priority. Dressing myself, even as a quasi fashion editor, isn't that important. Ripped jeans, some t-shirt that survived the great "Kondo donation" of 2015, and a pair of Vans are usually how this morning ends.
So when I was given the opportunity to wear denim every day to work, my immediate reaction was: well, that's lazy.
But after spending time looking at the denim assortment I was asked to style, I put myself in check and realized I'd get to wear some cute looks. From a chambray dress with a frayed hem to flared overalls, check out how my five days of denim challenge really went.
Flared overalls on Monday
While I've always been an overalls sort of girl, I've never dressed them up before. This pair, though, had a flared leg, which made it much easier to elevate.
How I styled it: With an ankle boot and striped high-neck sweater, I felt ready to tackle Monday in this look.
White on white for Tuesday
I don't own any white denim. It's not the most forgiving — I feel like it shows everything — but this pair featured a wide, cropped leg.
How I styled this: Pairing the pants with a white denim shirt was out of my comfort zone, but once I tucked the shirt in and added in a dose of color at the neck, I felt like myself.
Olive denim on Wednesday
Denim shirts are incredibly versatile — they look good tucked, half-tucked, underneath overalls, and even over a skirt.
How I styled it: Here, I wore an olive button-down denim shirt underneath a pinafore. I buttoned the shirt all the way to the neckline and finished with a flat-brim hat.
I'm very much a denim shirt lover, but I hadn't explored different colors. Olive is one of my favorite shades, so I felt super comfortable in this combo.
Boyfriend jeans on Thursday
Oh, yes. Who doesn't love a good relaxed boyfriend jean?
How I styled it: I personally thought this style of denim could be worn with anything, from sandals to heels, but here, I styled it with an oversize black button-down and mules. Since there was a lot of volume happening, I tucked the shirt into my waistband, which created a nice silhouette.
Chambray dress on Friday
Dressing for Friday is really about dressing for the weekend, and there was nothing more appropriate than this lightweight denim dress. TGIF, amirite?
How I styled it: A chambray dress with raw edges, lace-up flats, and a straw boater hat practically screamed Summer. Between the studs on the shoes and the hem, I felt like I'd nailed my Friday outfit.
