Shirley Temple's Blue Diamond Ring Didn't Find a Buyer Just Yet . . .

Turns out, Shirley Temple's ring is the piece of jewelry we didn't even know how badly we wanted. While jewelry collections from the likes of Liz Taylor often make headlines at auction, it's news of Shirley Temple's fancy blue 9.54-carat diamond ring that's captivated the world right now. Sotheby's auctioned the ring, reportedly expecting a sale between $25 million and $35 million. However, despite its tour to Los Angeles and Hong Kong for exhibition, the piece did not find a buyer.

The treasured jewel was a gift from Temple's father when she was just 12 and remained a beloved part of the actress's collection her whole life:

"She acquired it at the age of 12 and had it her whole life. This was a treasured piece of jewelry [bought by Mr. Temple for $7,210 in 1940], she wore time and time again — we have pictures of her wearing it when sworn in as ambassador, when she was presenting an Oscar," Sotheby's New York jewelry sales director Frank Everett told WWD.
