Why Fashion Girls Love J.Crew

J.Crew isn't what it used to be. That much is clear from customer backlash, shrinking profit margins, and a revamp set in motion by widespread layoffs and a newly appointed head of design — Madewell's Somsack Sikhounmuong will take the helm at its sister store. But despite the Internet buzz and the brand shake-ups, I'm willing to put money on the label I've adored since I fell in love with a pair of corduroys and clogs back in sixth grade.

The thing is, J.Crew may have evolved a bit past the cable-knit sweaters and cardigans beloved by some core customers while seeking a chic, fashion-insider face-lift, but I kind of love it. I love walking into previews and presentations, greeted by a lineup of models who look as if they were dressed from Jenna Lyons's own closet. I've loved being a bridesmaid in friends' weddings and getting to choose a J.Crew dress I would actually totally wear again. I love that 17 years after my first J.Crew purchase, the store has grown up right along with me. I can't say as much for Delia's. For these reasons — and a lot more — I'm still a J.Crew fan (and I don't think I'm the only one).
