I Wore the Same Dress to 5 Fashion Week Events, and I'm Pretty Sure No One Knew

I live in San Francisco now. While the idea of throwing everything from the closet into a massive Rimowa suitcase may excite some people, it is a huge turnoff for me. I want to pack as few things as possible. I want to carry on my luggage, stow it above me, and talk to no one on the plane.

With New York Fashion Week twinkling in the distance, I knew that I'd have to get really creative with my packing if I wanted to avoid having to check a bag. Between attending fashion shows, catching up with industry people, and brand-hosted dinners, it's important to get the outfits right.

Up ahead, find out how I was able to make the same dress work for five very different occasions.

Since I knew I'd be wearing the dress a lot, I decided to throw a pleated midi skirt on over it so that it looked like I was wearing a cutout bodysuit on top. It was early in the day, so I wore slides and finished with a leopard-print clutch bag. It was a nice way to start out the day.

I'd already revealed the top of the dress, so the most logical thing to do next was to reveal just the bottom so that it looked like a pencil skirt. I rolled the sleeves up to my elbows — it was warm that day so it served double duty — and put on a boxy white blouse with bows on the sleeves. No one knew.

I usually stack my day such that I wear heels in the morning and then finish out the day in sneakers. By the time my feet are tired, my lace-up sneaks are waiting for me. A sleeveless long duster coat and white Adidas sneakers fulfilled my minimalist desires, while the bright fuzzy bag gave me all the life I needed.

Statement-making leather ankle boots and a denim duster were the perfect way to transform this piece into an evening-ready event. The shoes were super comfortable and made me feel confident.

Dinner and an Afterparty

Perhaps my most favorite part of any day: eating. For an early dinner, I chose platform oxfords, which were super comfortable and looked great with this dress. I toned it down with a denim jacket tied at the waist.
