This Is What Happens When You Work Out 7 Days in a Row

I work out. Regularly. I've always been that way.

For no reason other than the fact that I enjoy it. But I'm also really practical when it comes to my fitness. I don't sign up for things I know I can't do (looking at you, aerial yoga), and I also follow the rules when it comes to figuring in time to recover.

So when I was given the opportunity to work on this fitness story and exercise for an entire week, I wasn't sure how I'd approach it. For starters, I wouldn't normally work out seven days straight. Rest is an important part of any exercise routine, but this forced me to rethink my approach to rest days. I didn't actually have to just sit on my butt. I could go to a stretch class or try meditative yoga.

So read on to find out what happened when I committed to taking seven different workout classes in a week.

Day 1: Cardio Boxing

Day 1: Cardio Boxing

The first day, I signed up for one of my favorite classes: cardio boxing. I prefer this over its sister, kickboxing, because I don't have a lot of mobility in the hips. Rather than forcing myself to contort in ways that are unnatural to me, boxing allows me to focus on my upper body.

This class featured a mix of cardio drills, bag work, and partner punching. I was wiped after it.

What I wore: A power core compression bra in pink, which was a smart choice for such an active class like boxing, and capri sweatpants.

Day 2: Cycling

Something about a dark room really appeals to me when it comes to cycling. And if the music is just right, I can push myself cardiovascularly.

This class was set up with stadium seating, which I liked because I could see the instructor (not all Spin classes are set up with this way). We broke for arms for two songs, but the weights were light so I was able to push through. I lucked out with the class — it was '90s day.

What I wore: cycling shorts and zippered vest.

Day: 3 HIIT (high-intensity interval training)

Day: 3 HIIT (high-intensity interval training)

It had been quite some time since I devoted 45 minutes to a specific muscle group. And even though the class title I signed up for was BOOTY — in all caps — I somehow anticipated that we'd be doing something else in there. A sit-up, maybe?

No. All butt.

We wrapped the 45-minute training session by clenching our fists and butts for 30 seconds. It sounds like an easy enough task, but not after burning out the glutes for 45 minutes.

What I wore: black power shape zip front bra, which really held me in nicely during all those jump squats, and high-waist capris.

Day 4: Pilates

Day 4: Pilates

When mapping out the week, I didn't anticipate being so sore on day four. My hamstrings were feeling it after day three's workout. I wished I'd taken day four as a rest day, but it was too late: I'd already signed up for Pilates. And when Pilates calls, you answer.

The class was an intimate three-person reformer session, which I really appreciated. The instructor was able to correct my form the entire time, which doesn't always happen. Lucky for me, the Pilates instructor had us working on legs for a majority of the class, so I fatigued quickly.

What I wore: performance leggings, strappy sports bra, featherweight tank.

Day 5: Yoga x Meditation

Day 5: Yoga x Meditation

Finally, a day to work on my inner health.

I signed up for my very first Yoga Meditation class. I've done Mindfulness before, and I've toyed around with yoga poses, but I'd never taken Yoga Meditation.

The class was fantastic. With the lights off, we began with a series of yoga poses then laid down on our mats with serape blankets. From there, our instructor guided us through a calming meditation sequence, where we focused our attention on our breath and opening up. At one point the instructor came over to push my shoulders deeper into the ground. It was uncomfortable but in a good way.

While I didn't break a sweat or elevate my heart rate, this was a fantastic way to still be "active" while taking an off day.

What I wore: A lightweight and comfortable strappy cami sports bra and stirrup pant.

Day 6: TRX

Day 6: TRX

I wanted to give my legs a break, so I signed up for a TRX class, secretly hoping that we'd spend a majority of the time doing core and upper-body work.

I'm not sure why I thought it wouldn't be a fully-body class. That's the whole point of TRX.

In addition to still having lingering tightness in my hamstrings from HIIT, this class had our legs in the straps a lot, doing core work. Since my core is fairly weak, I found myself using other muscle groups to compensate. I knew better than to do that, but in the heat of the moment when I want to complete an exercise, I make bad decisions. I didn't injure myself, but I could feel it in my back following class.

What I wore: performance leggings, seamless tank, and power core compression sports bra.

Day 7: Interval Training

Day 7: Interval Training

Finally, my wheelhouse.

I decided to spend day seven focusing on cardio, doing a light jog mixed with some interval training. I downloaded the app 10k Runner and took off for a 35-minute run. The run started off with a 5-minute walk, which I don't normally plan for, and then a series of runs and walks. While I could have pushed myself harder during the running intervals, I decided to take it easy, given that this was day seven.

It was a smart way to listen to my body while still getting a decent sweat.

What I wore: capri running leggings, power core compression sports bra, and woven jacket.
