How 1 Woman's Photo of Her Thighs Started a Social Media Movement

When 21-year-old South African Mixo Jeaux shared a mirror picture of herself on Twitter on Jan. 7, she probably didn't know it would start a body-positive movement that would sweep the social media platform — but it did. In the picture, shown above, Jeaux is wearing shorts that flaunt her thighs. The caption states, "I took this on the first day of #ThighsForJeaux."

Since sharing her photo months ago, Jeaux inspired other Twitter users to post unretouched photos of their thighs using the hashtag, which has since been populated with hundreds of images. Jeaux has also changed her Twitter name to the fitting "thigh ambassador."
