Whether you typically sprint down the grassy field during soccer games or save your energy for long-distance training runs, all athletes can relate to the frustration of wearing ill-fitting pants. When your gear doesn't fit properly, it's a huge distraction and can result in things like chafing and redness. If you've suffered from "loose drawstring" or are just on the hunt for some new workout tights, we have some tips that will help you on your hunt.

Tips for finding great running pants

Practice sitting down in them

You should think about running tights the same way you do your shoes. Try them on. And not only try them on, sit down in them. See how the fabric feels on your stomach when you move around. You don't want anything too restrictive.

Look for a compression waistband

There's nothing more annoying during a run then having to tug at the fabric on your thighs in an effort to pull your tights back up. Something with a bonded contour waistband will help keep your pants where they are supposed to be when you're jogging.

Material matters

Heavy fabrics, like cotton or even fleece, should be avoided. They can cause friction (that means blisters and chafing) and bunch up, making for an awkward gait. Plus, cotton retains water so if you sweat it makes the fabric even heavier. Look for breathable products that offer moisture-wicking and are made with spandex, polyester, or nylon.
