Seek Solace This Downton Abbey Season With a Comforting Menu

We left season three of Downton Abbey with extremely heavy hearts, but the show must and will go on as the premiere of season four is this Sunday. Fans can expect to mourn alongside Mary in the season premiere, which is why we've created a menu of comforting British food and drink to make it all a bit more bearable. All the food is bite-size, so you can serve everything at the coffee table for your guests to nibble on at their leisure. The Dowager Countess of Grantham would so not approve.

At $17 a bottle, we recommend the white Blanc Bordeaux Downton Abbey Wine over the red Claret Bordeaux. That is, unless you are looking for an additional reason to weep during the season premiere.

Cucumber-Mint Tea Sandwiches

What could be more comforting than the classic combination of cucumber, cream cheese, and white bread? This particular recipe calls for the addition of mint to perk up the flavor.

Cornish Pastries

With a flaky, buttery crust and chicken and squash filling, these cornish pastries are the British equivalent of chicken pot pie.

British Scones

There are few things better than piping-hot British scones. Americanize them just a tad by serving them with salted butter and strawberry jam.

Lemon Curd

Alternatively, offer homemade lemon curd for those who want to indulge their sour dispositions with something tart.
