Meet Olive Garden's newest menu addition: spaghetti pie. Yes, there's actual pie crust in it. And yes, it's pretty freakin' delicious. There are two types of spaghetti pie: one for alfredo-lovers and one for red-sauce-lovers. The one pictured above is Chicken Alfredo Deep Dish Spaghetti Pie: spaghetti, seven cheeses, and Italian bacon baked in pie crust and topped with grilled chicken and alfredo sauce.

Then there's the Meatball Deep Dish Spaghetti Pie: spaghetti, seven cheeses, and Italian bacon baked in pie crust and topped with meatballs and bolognese sauce.

Simultaneously confusing and intriguing, right? The pies taste exactly as you're imagining: like cheesy, carby, hearty goodness that can only be described as comfort food. They're basically a new twist on a baked pasta dish, and they remind me of the Italian tradition of using leftover spaghetti in an omelet or frittata. I recently learned about that idea in As the Romans Do by Eleonora Galasso — the Roman phrase translates to "Nothing gets thrown away here."

You might feel like taking a nap after devouring a slice of the cheesy pie, but then doesn't everyone feel that way after any form of carb overload? These creations are just a couple of Olive Garden's newest menu items. You'll also find spicy Calabrian chicken breadstick sandwiches, eggplant parmesan breadstick sandwiches, and chocolate caramel lasagna on the menu the next time you dine there. One thing's for sure: you've never had spaghetti and meatballs like this before.
