The Original Girl Scout Cookie Recipe Is Sweet and Simple

It's the 100th anniversary of Girl Scout Cookie season, and People is sharing the original Girl Scout Cookie recipe for all of us to enjoy.

The first time the Girl Scouts sold cookies was in 1917 when the Mistletoe Troop of Muskogee, OK, baked and sold cookies as part of a service project. In 1922, the Girl Scouts who published the magazine The American Girl featured a recipe from a local director from Chicago, Florence E. Neil.

The simple sugar cookie recipe was distributed by the group's 2,000 Scouts. Girl Scouts across the country proceeded to bake the cookies and sell them for 25 to 30 cents for a dozen.

Head over to People to try the recipe for the original Girl Scout Cookies for yourself.
