This Ice Cream Recall Is By Far the Most Depressing News

Ice cream fans, it was a bad enough blow for Blue Bell to recall all of its products, but now Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams has issued a voluntary recall of "all products bearing the 'Jeni's' brand name" including "all ice creams, frozen yogurts, sorbets, and ice cream sandwiches for all flavors and containers because of the possible presence of Listeria monocytogenes." The dreadful organism can cause gastrointestinal harm and even fatal infections for young children, elderly people, and those with a weakened immune system.

As a result, the company is closing all of its scoop shops and halting all online purchases until the products are tested clean. CEO John Lowe responds, "We have called in experts to help us find the root cause. We will be working with our suppliers to determine if the bacteria was introduced by one of the ingredients we use. We will not reopen the kitchen until we can ensure the safety of our customers."

While no illnesses have been reported, if you have recently purchased any Jeni's ice cream products, do not consume them and immediately dispose of them and/or return them for a full refund. Contact Jeni's for any additional support by phone at 614-360-3905 or by email at recall@jenis.com.
