A Chicanx Student's Reason For Wearing a Traditional Dress to Prom: "I Love My Culture"

In Houston, a self-identifying nonbinary high school student wore a stunning prom dress reminiscent of traditional Mexican clothing. On Twitter, Charlie shared several pictures of the bold and bright dress, which was actually found at a local swap meet. Charlie's fearless caption read, "Fat bi non binary chicanx goes to prom 2k17."

Though Charlie shared other pictures from that day, it's this particular post that really resonated with people online. Since it was shared on May 16, the tweet has amassed over 2,000 retweets and 8,000 "likes." In addition, people are embracing Charlie's vibrant prom dress pick. After one person praised the dress's colorful skirt, Charlie replied, "Thank you so much. I love my culture."

Following the picture's popularity, Charlie shared the same photos on Instagram and elaborated on the idea. Charlie wrote, "I'm overwhelmed with the positive responses I've gotten!
