Matías Novoa and Isabella Castillo Gave Me a Sneak Peek Into El Señor de los Cielos Season 7, and I Have No Words!

The wait is finally over. El Señor de los Cielos returns Oct. 14 at 10 p.m. with an explosive season seven that sees the Casillas family fight to bring Aurelio (Rafael Amaya) back to life from his coma while launching a daring rescue operation to free Amado (Matías Novoa), who surrendered to the authorities to avoid being judged by the Mexican legal system and is about to be extradited to the United States.

This new season was filmed in Mexico and Greece, and features the return of a star-studded international cast, including Rafael and Matías, as well as Carmen Aub, Robinson Díaz, Ninel Conde, Iván Arana, and Isabella Castillo. The season also features special appearances by Guy Ecker, Manuel Landeta, Lisa Owen, and Alberto Guerra.

I had the opportunity to join the cast and crew as they wrapped up the last scenes in Mykonos, Greece, and was able to experience firsthand the intensity, action, emotion, and unexpected twists this season will bring. I was in awe of how prepared and professional the actors were, and was particularly impressed by Matías and Isabella (who plays Diana Ahumada), an explosive onscreen couple whose real-life love story began behind the scenes of season six.

If I'm being honest, I was a little intimidated by both of them. One, because they're probably some of the most beautiful people I've seen in my life, and two, because all I had seen up to that point was them as their characters. But when I met them in person as themselves after they wrapped, it was clear they were incredibly sweet, professional, grounded, and superfun people to be around. Not to mention they make the loveliest couple. At the time of my interview, they were legally married and getting ready for a ceremony with their friends and family, which took place just this past weekend.

However, what really had me like the two-eyes emoji was everything they shared with me about this new season of El Señor de los Cielos, the return of Aurelio Casillas, and how they've had to adjust to working with each other now that their relationship has grown and developed into a marriage in real life. This is what they said.

Matías: The whole story of this season begins with Amado having to get out of jail. We'll get to know him a lot more. We'll tap into his past. We're going to understand why he is how he is a little better. In some moments, his past will also bring forth some conflicts, especially in his relationship with Diana. The way Amado acts is also going to be rattling things up within the family, and you'll see more conflicts among the Casillas.

This is a very vulnerable family now, and everyone is taking care of each other. They are in a living hell, especially with Aurelio's situation. He's in a coma, they don't know what to do. The family lost its leader, and Amado steps up in a way. However, this new "leader" is completely different to what they were used to. Amado is very strategic, smarter, bolder with his decisions. He's not as visceral as Aurelio, and this is going to be reflected in the family dynamics.

Isabella: Last season, Diana took part of all the action with the dudes, and this season she's going to echar más plomo todavía. She's going to be in more operatives. She's more empowered and decided than ever. She's not the typical woman you see in these types of shows, and I'm excited Telemundo is creating these strong female characters that represent more women, because we're usually not shown in that capacity. Diana is pistolera, she loves guns, she loves being a part of the action. And it's fun giving life to a character that reminds me of me in a way. I was more of a tomboy and never really a girly girl, and there's a high percentage of women who are like that as well.

Matías: This is our last week shooting this season and we're tired now. We're holding on because we're so passionate about this job. It's exhausting, but we find the energy within us. This last week we're shooting roughly 35 scenes, and I'm in 32 of those. I kept psyching myself out of it, "How am I going to finish these scenes? I won't be able to do this! We won't have enough time." But then you focus, and you realize you still got it, and it becomes an incredible thing. Sometimes being tired helps you more, because you channel that emotion towards your scene. You become more present, more alert, and you start relying more on your scene partner, which strengthens that connection. And then, before you know it, you're done!

Matías: Working in Greece has been incredible. We had a long day today so I only enjoyed the sunrise and the sunset, but you can feel such an amazing energy from everyone involved. It's a treat to be able to enjoy these locations that are so breathtaking and you'll be able to also enjoy on screen. I'm really excited about the outcome. I still haven't seen anything, just some images, like a very short trailer, and I can't wait until I see how El Señor de los Cielos incorporates this amazing country in the storyline.
