10 Latinx Charities I Support, and You Should Too

With the upcoming 2020 election and the current spotlight on Latinx issues, I've collected 10 nonprofits you can donate to if you're looking for a way to help. I'm a big believer in supporting your community first, so I encourage you to always find local charities where your donation can go further and have a more direct impact whenever possible.

Ahead is a list of both national and regional organizations that are doing their part to help the Latinx community.

United We Dream (National)

United We Dream is a national, immigrant, youth-led organization dedicated to elevating immigrant voices. They focus on empowering immigrants regardless of their legal status to fight for justice and dignity for immigrants and all people.

They also have a hotline you can call to report ICE raids or any other immigration activity in your community.

Young Center For Immigrant Children's Rights (National)

The Young Center For Immigrant Children's Rights is a national human rights organization that advocates for the rights of unaccompanied immigrant children to make sure they're safe. The Young Center's attorneys and social workers meet with the detained children and accompany them to immigration court to fight for their well-being in a complicated justice system.

RAICES (National)

RAICES is a Texas-based nonprofit agency that promotes justice by providing free and low-cost legal services to underserved immigrant children, families, and refugees. They've already provided legal services to over 4,700 children detained at the southern US border and have established a bond fund to provide relief for immigrant families.

Voto Latino (National)

Voto Latino is a civic media organization that seeks to transform America by recognizing and promoting Latinx leadership. Over the past 15 years, they've worked to help organize and activate Latinx communities across the country to build a stronger and more inclusive democracy.

Atlas: DIY (Brooklyn, NY)

Atlas: DIY is an organization based in Brooklyn focused on helping immigrant youth regardless of their legal status by providing legal services, learning opportunities promoting higher education, and leadership development programs.

Make the Road New York (New York City)

Make the Road New York (MRNY) is the largest progressive grassroots immigrant-led organization in New York state, working on issues of workers' rights, immigrant and civil rights, environmental and housing justice, and more. MRNY provides an array of services such as educational trainings, legal services, and even health services for the Latinx community and beyond.

Safe Passage Project (New York City)

The Safe Passage Project is a nonprofit providing free lawyers for refugee and immigrant children in New York who otherwise don't have any legal counsel. Through their legal representation, they claim to win over 80 percent of their cases and served 1,205 people in 2019.

Florida Immigration Coalition (Miami)

The Florida Immigration Coalition is a nonprofit alliance dedicated to amplifying the power of immigrant communities, including the right to live without fear. They not only help organize throughout Florida, but also keep their community informed of the latest legal changes.

Latino Equality Alliance (Los Angeles)

The Latino Equality Alliance is an LA-based organization advocating for equity, safety, and wellness for the Latinx LGBTQ+ community. They focus their efforts on recruiting and developing leaders within the community who'll continue to champion their causes moving forward.

Chirla (Los Angeles)

Chirla is an immigrant-centered and immigrant-powered organization working to achieve a just society fully inclusive of immigrants. They're also working to defend DACA and dreamers while championing comprehensive immigration reform that can help the Latinx community at large.
