Meet Nathy Peluso, the Argentinian Genre-Bending Genius You Need to Watch

Between her flamenco-meets-trap music and her Lady Gaga-meets-Selena style, Nathy Peluso is an absolute genius at fusing artistic genres. Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1995, Nathy Peluso moved to Spain when she was 9. The Latin Grammy nominee for best new artist and best alternative song started out on YouTube flexing her visual-art talent in music videos that got millions of views. With her newfound social media popularity, she independently released her seven-track extended play, Esmeralda.

After the success of her debut album, she got a second wave of success when a contestant on a popular music TV show in Spain sung the title track of her second LP, "La Sandunguera." She then signed with Sony Music Spain and produced her most recent and celebrated album, Calambre.

Whether she's balancing a bucket of mayonnaise on her head on Instagram or rapping over an accordion, Nathy Peluso is an artist who isn't afraid to be bold. She's not just one thing and that's what her fans love about her the most: her intense, experimental attitude. Click through to discover why this exciting new artist is more than worthy of her Latin Grammy nominations.

Haute Mama

This Latina artist is excellent at experimenting with pushing herself into new and fun territories through her clothes, her music, and her sense of humor. She's a bit like Lady Gaga in that way; her sense of style is a form of art in itself. This curvy queen can make thin pieces of gauze look hotter than garter belts. Just take a look at her newest album cover.

Viral Beginnings

She began her musical career on YouTube before moving to Madrid to study fine arts, and you can see this artistic expertise at work in each music video she makes. Nominated for best alternative song at this year's Latin Grammy Awards, and with over five million views on YouTube, "Buenos Aires" is a delicately sentimental video that feels like a teenage day-dream of her childhood set within her hometown of Buenos Aires, Argentina.

A True Visual and Musical Artist

Compare that sweet video featuring adorable images of her as a toddler with her badass character in "Business Woman," and you can see a true artist at work. She can turn her vibe from soft and sultry to unapologetically assertive depending on what the song calls for.

NYC's Discovery

She first drew attention from music critics and major producers when she independently produced her seven-track release Esmeralda. After developing her second LP with Everlasting Records, La Sandunguera skyrocketed her into the music scene with outrageous success in 2018. She toured internationally with her jazz-latin singles "La Sandunguera" and "Estoy Triste," after which she received a nomination from the Independent Music Awards (MIN) for song of the year and best music video; she eventually went on to win discovery artist at New York City's Latin Alternative Music Conference that same year.

Her Big Break

In 2019, she signed with Sony Music Spain and published her first book, Deja Que te Combata, which currently enjoys a glowing 4.7 rating on Amazon. When a contestant on a popular Spanish television music competition sang her song "La Sandunguera" on prime-time TV, Nathy enjoyed a boost in popularity that helped bring attention to her next record.

2020, the Year That Didn't Suck For This Singer

2020 has brought new collaborations and more hits for Nathy. Her song "No Se Perdona" with Rels B has been outrageously successful, with over 12 million streams on Spotify. "Buenos Aires" scored a Latin Grammy nomination for best alternative song, and her reaction on Instagram when she found out is pure joy. This girl is on fire!
