Dad Saves Son From Crashing His Bike Into a Car — but the Internet's Unimpressed With His Heroics

In a Reddit post titled "True dad reflexes" that has since been deleted, a dad shared a short video of himself running beside his son as he rides a bike in the street. In the last few seconds of the video, the boy's bike veers toward the back of a parked pickup truck and the dad miraculously runs halfway across the street to grab him just in the nick of time before he crashes. Despite the dad's heroics — and seriously cat-like reflexes — the internet is giving this dad a hard time, and honestly, for good reason: his son wasn't wearing a helmet.

Although this dad was able to pick his son up off the bike at the very last second, most others — myself included — would have likely just missed being able to grab the boy before he hit the truck sans head protection. And plenty of Reddit users had something to say about that fact.

"That kid needs a helmet," commented Reddit user jbcorny. Another added, "Where I'm from helmets are mandatory not only for kids, but also adults. I was ticketed once for not wearing mine. I think it's a good law though, because helmets are awesome."

Although a few others chimed in regarding his son's lack of a helmet in general or about the safety laws in their own towns, someone who had an accident with a helmet on chimed in to share their story, proving just how important head protection is.

It only takes one bad wreck, man. I had this horrible wreck, going down hill pretty fast and hit some rocks. I hit so hard. I slammed into the ground and my bike flew up and over my body into the street. I landed right on my helmet. I was bloody and embarrassed but I was alive! Hitting those sharp rocks right on my head would have been really bad.

Despite the fact that the dad has since deleted his original post, we're hoping he got the helmet message before fleeing the page completely. As for his initial reason for posting the video — all helmet talk aside — we've got to give it to this dad: the man's quick as lightning on those bare feet.
