When it came time for Iris's mom to start planning her birthday bash, the usual themes — Frozen, Hello Kitty, Star Wars — were quickly shot down. Instead, Iris wanted to celebrate her day with a party centered around her biggest passion: CVS pharmacy.
For those who know Iris well, her answer didn't come as a complete surprise. "This girl's love for CVS is pure and true — so loyal that I recently asked Iris where she'd rather go — CVS or Disney World. Her response? CVS and Disney World. So when your kid puts CVS on the same level as Disney World, you embrace it," her mom, Sarah Fortune, wrote on her blog. "One day it won't be so simple to make her happy, so for now I take her to CVS when we have a few extra minutes to spare and try my best to make her birthday party special, as tricky as it may be (after all, there are no Pinterest boards for this, folks)."
Sarah started planning Iris's party a month before and kept a lookout for anything red and white that she could incorporate. She brought Iris's dream to life with a CVS-inspired celebration at their local park complete with a DIY checkout station. The adults enjoyed CVS signature cocktails (cranberry vodka splash) and pill bottles filled with mints as favors, while the kids were treated to pharmacy goodie bags and a special CVS cake.
When CVS headquarters learned about Iris's impending festivities, they sent over snacks, favors, and party supplies to celebrate. And the best part? Iris drove by her local store on her birthday and saw a big "Happy Birthday, Iris Gill" message flashing on the sign.
