1 Mom and Her Toddler Are Both Fighting Cancer at the Same Time

In a rare and devastating stroke of bad luck, 31-year-old Heather Wilson is fighting an inoperable stage two brain tumor at the same time her 14-month-old daughter, London, is fighting a yolk sac tumor near her ovaries. The pair are fighting cancer together, and their story, though tragic, is inspiring many.

Heather received her diagnosis in June after she began experiencing seizures, but according to her aunt, Pam Hunt, you wouldn't even know she was battling cancer. "If you met her, you would never know," Hunt told Today. "She's not a victim. She doesn't let it affect her and just tries to go about her life every day."

Six months after her fight began — and just before Christmas — Heather began finding blood in London's diapers regularly. After a visit to the hospital unfortunately confirmed the tot's cancer diagnosis, she began treatment right away.

"Heather felt terrible that maybe it was something she gave (London), but the doctors confirmed that it was not," Hunt said. "I just struggle with why this should happen to her when she already has such a heavy burden to save her own life. . . . It just seems like it's one in a million."

GoFundMe

After both diagnoses, Hunt created a GoFundMe page to help with the Wilson family's medical expenses. "Most of us are fortunate enough not to know this struggle so we cannot even begin to understand how hard this will be for this family," Hunt wrote on the page. "I am starting this page for them because they have a long, hard road ahead and need help! . . . No mom should have to worry about her baby when she herself doesn't have enough strength to make it through the day. Helping them will be a blessing in their life."
