Avoid any mixed salads more than 4hrs old. Fruit, potato, caesar salads... Listeria forms over foods mixed together. Roast chicken that's gone cold since cooking, mayonnaise (look for 'pastuerised' as Dionne says below), cream that hasn't been heated or has gone cold- bye bye cheesecake lol... All these foods present as a v.mild cold in you.. but give bub brain damage! In fact, when breastfeeding (for couple of wks atleast), you still need to avoid ham, pates and soft cheeses (inc feta) as listeriosis passes through the milk.. Don't expect a doctor to pick up on it when you bf either...

if you are having burgers no matter who you are they should always be cooked all the way and thoroughly shouldn't use a scale of medium or well done or rare for burgers made with Mince as anyone can get food poisoning. Steak, fillet or what ever on the other hand yes that is fine to eat a bit pink - when you aren't pregnant. can't wait till i can have a medium steak again. and caesar salads and "creamy" salad dressings again, avoid the home made ones, ask your restaurant if you are eating out but just best to avoid them but ones brought from the store are made with pasteurized eggs which means they have undergone a heat treatment and are fine for pregnant women. Just make sure the label does say pasteurized before consuming.
