Over the weekend, protests erupted across the country in response to President Donald Trump's executive order to ban individuals from seven countries from entering the United States — initially, the ban extended even to those who hold green cards. According to The New York Times, 109 people were held at airports over the weekend after landing in the United States. That number included a 5-year-old boy who was flying to Dulles Airport in Virginia to meet his mother.

In this video, you can see the boy's mother waiting anxiously for her son, who was reportedly detained for more than four hours before being released. While she is Iranian, her son is an American citizen from Maryland. Maryland Sen. Chris Van Hollen posted a Facebook post Saturday night that strongly rebuked President Trump. He said the boy was held despite his citizenship and despite the fact that he "gave the authorities advance notice of his arrival." Van Hollen also claimed that officials "refused to say whether he had been released or was still in custody" when he called demanding more information.
