Every American Should Read This Valentine Sent to Journalists by Wise Fourth Graders

If you think adults are the only ones bothered by President Donald Trump's derisive attitude toward the press, think again. A group of fourth graders from Washington DC decided to express their appreciation for journalists with a heartfelt Valentine's Day card sent to some very lucky reporters at The New York Times and The Washington Post. In an era when the media is referred to as "the opposition party" by the commander in chief, it's refreshing to see that not all respect for this important profession is lost.

Listen up, Donald Trump — this is the right way to treat people who are just trying to do their jobs.

"Happy Valentine's Day! We are four 4th graders from Key Elementary School in Washington D.C.," their note begins. "And we want to say that we are sorry that people can be mean to you sometimes for just doing your job, and we are sorry that your feelings are hurt from time to time. We've all been bullied too, and we know how you feel. This Valentine we made is to thank you for being strong and telling the truth. You have power in your voice, you have strength and we are proud of you. If someone sends you a mean email or letter, you can ignore them, and remember that love 'Trumps' hate! We hope you continue to succeed and continue to be reporters. Nobody should stop you. We are passionate about you! We think you are amazing, awesome, really courageous, brave, strong magnificent and terrific! Keep doing what you do.

When we are old enough to be President, we will support you even when you say things we disagree with, because it's the truth and the truth is powerful and important. One day we may be reporters like you too, because that's a cool thing to do."

And if that wasn't cute enough on its own, look at the front of the card and prepare to melt.
