Let's Revisit Trump's Old Tweet About Obama Playing Golf, Shall We?

Since taking office just over nine weeks ago, Donald Trump has made a trip to a golf club 12 times. Yes, 12. As the president arrived at the National Golf Club in Virginia on March 25, NBC editor Bradd Jaffy shared the startling statistic on Twitter.

The final count means that Trump has hit the golf club — at the very least — on average more than once a week throughout the start of his tumultuous presidency. Now, there is some confusion as to whether he's actually playing golf when he visits golf courses. At a recent press conference, Sean Spicer said Trump uses golf courses for business, too. "On a couple of occasions, he's actually conducted meetings there, he's actually had phone calls," Spicer said. "So just because he heads there, it doesn't mean that that's what's happening."

Still, the president's use of his time is worth questioning, especially when we remember how he repeatedly berated Barack Obama for his golf habits throughout his two terms — here's just one of many tweets on the topic, sent October 2014.

According to Golf Digest, Obama did play more golf than his two predecessors but not more than other presidents like Woodrow Wilson and Dwight Eisenhower. All in all, Obama played 306 rounds while in office. That's roughly 38 rounds per year — a number that Trump is guaranteed to surpass at this rate.
