Bernie Sanders Trolled Trump on the Senate Floor by Printing a Life-Size Version of His Tweet

Never change, Bernie Sanders. On Wednesday, as the Senate debated dismantling Obamacare, Sanders called out Donald Trump for promising not to cut Medicare and Medicaid — and he made his point by presenting a life-size cutout version of one of Trump's tweets.

Sanders spoke on the Senate floor in front of the cutout, which featured a tweet from May 7, 2015 in which Trump wrote, "I was the first and only potential GOP candidate to state there will be no cuts to Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. Huckabee copied me." Sanders's communications director Mike Casca had the prestigious honor of carrying the tweet through the Senate.

The Vermont senator recited Trump's tweet as well as several other tweets in which he promised to protect Medicaid and Social Security. "Millions of people voted for him on the belief that he would keep his word. Well, it seems to me that Mr. Trump right now has got to do one of two things," said Sanders. "Number one, if all that he was talking about was campaign rhetoric, then what he was obliged to do now is to tell the American people, 'I was lying. Yeah, I said that I would not support cuts . . . but I was lying. It was a campaign ruse.' But if that is not what the case is, if he was sincere, I would hope that tomorrow or maybe today he could send out a tweet and tell his Republican colleagues to stop wasting their time and all of our time. And for Mr. Trump to tell the American people that he will veto any proposal that cuts Medicare, that cuts Medicaid, or that cuts Social Security."
