In case you thought things couldn't get any more absurd in politics, this cartoon of education secretary Betsy DeVos reimagined as 6-year-old Ruby Bridges is here to prove you wrong. The controversial artwork first appeared in the Belleville News-Democrat and was drawn by an artist named Glenn McCoy. In it, he apparently compares the backlash DeVos faced during her confirmation hearings to the verbal and physical attacks 6-year-old Bridges faced as the first black child to attend an all-white school in Louisiana in 1960.

The original painting of Bridges was created by Norman Rockwell to showcase the racism Bridges endured just for trying to receive a decent education. The harassment was so brutal that Bridges had to be escorted to school by the US Marshals. People on social media were quick to call out how offensive the comparison is, and Chelsea Clinton also weighed in with a tweet of the original Ruby Bridges painting.

Another viral photo response to the cartoon features a recent photo of Bridges with former President Barack Obama standing in front of the historic painting and has over 15,000 retweets and 34,000 "likes" at press time.

Instead of a trash DeVos cartoon, I'm sharing this: my fave photo of President Obama, with the REAL painting and its subject, Ruby Bridges. pic.twitter.com/gOvmSOjcSf
