Many of us showed our American pride with festive gear and BBQs for Fourth of July, but what does patriotism actually consist of? A recent PSA by Ad Council called "We Are America" features wrestler John Cena and strives to change our perception about this country and those who live here.

The popular video explains how patriotism goes beyond one's love for a country and challenges viewers to picture the average US citizen — by the end of the video, the person you're envisioning in your head will undoubtedly change.

Cena explains that out of the 319 million American citizens, 51 percent are female, making the average American a woman. He goes on to say that "54 million are Latino, 40 million are senior citizens, 27 million are disabled, 19 million are Asian . . . 9 million are lesbian, gay, bi, transgender." In fact, minority groups make up nearly half the country. Discriminating somebody based on their differences is essentially the opposite of patriotism, because loving your country means loving everyone within it.

Check out the video above to see why it's going viral with nearly 900,000 views and how patriotism equals love beyond labels.
