5 Things All Los Angeles Natives Are Guilty of Saying

There are certain things that bring all Angelenos together, the most important of which is their lingo. We partnered with E!'s Stewarts & Hamiltons, which is set in LA, for this post.

Whether you were born in Los Angeles or you moved there to pursue a career in entertainment (which, let's be honest, you refer to as "the industry"), there are a number of commonalities that all Southern Californian residents share. Like, how they speak.

Up ahead, the five most likely things you've said if you're really from LA.

"Let me get that protein style"

This is one of In-N-Out Burger's more popular "secret menu" items. You only take your burgers this way — without the bun — although your friends typically order animal style.

The activity you can't do could be anything — go out to lunch, meet friends for dinner — it doesn't matter. If there's rain in the forecast, you won't go. And you're not embarrassed to tell people why you'll be absent.

This modern-day Tupperware party is as ubiquitous as getting an invite to brunch. Event highlights typically include mediocre appetizers, chilled white wine, and a quick 15-minute session with a professional who will free you of all your wrinkles. If you come late and miss your appointment, they might be able to squeeze you in for a pedicure.

You add "the" before listing any freeway number, which always confuses people from the rest of the country who just say things like, "Take 495 to . . . "

"I wrote a screenplay"

There's nothing to be ashamed about. Writing a screenplay takes a tremendous amount of focus and energy, but you don't need to tell everyone about it. They already know you wrote one. You live in Los Angeles.
