Your Cable Bill Might Go WAY Down Thanks to Apple

Anybody who has spent hours on the phone with their cable provider over a billing dispute or connection issue has fantasized about cutting the cord for good, and thanks to Apple more people might do so. According to The Wall Street Journal, the company intends to launch a web cable service this Fall, which could cost between $30 and $40 for Apple TV, iPhone, and iPad. The service would come with approximately 25 channels from networks like Disney and Fox, which is exciting for TV enthusiasts who are sick of traditional cable.

The company recently reduced the price of Apple TV to a mere $69 and announced a partnership with HBO Now, so this web TV news will likely convince shoppers to cut the cord. Here are seven reasons why we're excited about this report and why you should be, too!

  1. You can cut out the crap: Reducing your TV channels from hundreds down to 25 core ones means eliminating all the junk you never watch. Do you really want to wade through 12 college sports channels before you finally find the Super Bowl?
  2. It's mobile: While some cable companies already offer mobile streaming, Apple has always been great at creating simple seamlessness that people adore. We've got high hopes for the iPad and iPhone streaming available on this service.
  3. Fewer cords and cables to deal with: Ditching cable means just that . . . getting rid of cables! We hope that this new web TV option will mean fewer tangly wires behind the entertainment center.
  4. It's one more synced device: Making the switch from cable to an Apple service means more interconnectedness between all your Apple devices. It's nice to have everything sync up without much user effort.
  5. It's cheap: With plenty of cable packages over $100, doesn't spending $30 sound divine?
  6. It might be on demand: Apple TV is currently set up as an on-demand system, and we hope that this new web TV service will follow suit, in addition to offering live options. There's no need for DVRs if you can simply search and watch specific shows.
  7. It could encourage Apple to go original: Most major online TV streaming companies — including Hulu, Netflix, and Amazon — have begun to create original programming in addition to their network offerings. If this Apple service is successful, it could encourage the company to create its own shows! We hope so, anyway.
