You Have to See What This Geeky Dad Did For His 1-Year-Old Girl

When Australian dad (and total geek) Tez Gelmir thought about the gift to buy for his daughter's first birthday, nothing seemed quite good enough. But instead of settling for a stuffed animal or a dramatic reading of Love You Forever, Gelmir got creative: he decided to build his daughter her very own Star Wars speeder bike. Just add him to the list of Star Wars-loving dads who get creative for their kids!

On the Instructables page he created about the project (which other geeky parents can use to create custom speeders for their own kids), the dad discussed his process:

"I have built my son lots of projects but with my daughter's first birthday coming up I felt it was her turn to get some project love and what better way than with her own Speeder Bike?!

"The 74-Z Speeder Bike is best known for its appearance in the 1983 movie, Star Wars: Episode VI: Return of the Jedi. In which Imperial Scout Troopers, on the forest moon of Endor, engage in a vicious chase with Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia Organa after the Rebels commandeered the speeder bikes to pursue their foes.

"I have to say though, when the design first came to mind, I had no idea the time and thought that would be involved . . . "

Complete with LED "laser" blasters and a rust-colored finish to mirror the metallic speeders in the sci-fi series, the finished product is every Star Wars fan's dream toy. Gelmir's 1-year-old is a lucky lady — even Princess Leia would be hard-pressed to find a better ride. Watch the video below to see her reaction to the rocker, and then check out some detailed shots of the completed toy!

The completed rocking speeder bike. Isn't it awesome?

The LED blaster is totally safe for kids . . . but not for Stormtroopers.

OK, we want one for ourselves.

Look at that smile! Best dad EVER.
