Snapchat just introduced a new feature, Memories, that is a complete deviation from the app's original transient purpose. On its blog, Snapchat described Memories as a "personal collection of your favorite moments."

Memories can be likened to a photo album. Snapchats can be added to your Memories in the same way you would add a Snapchat to your usual story — although they don't expire after 24 hours. The idea is that you can string Snapchats together to show the narrative of a particular vacation, party, or the like. The video demonstrating the new feature also shows how you can make certain Snapchats within your Memories to be private by selecting "My Eyes Only."

BuzzFeed reported on another way Memories will completely transform the app: it will allow you to upload photos from your phone's camera roll and add them to a story.

It appears that the feature is still being fine-tuned, however, Snapchat plans on making it available in California starting today and rolling out worldwide in about a month.
