It's that magical time: your girlfriend is getting married (or maybe you are!) and it's time to plan one last fling before the ring. But if you're looking for an unforgettable weekend somewhere less expected than Las Vegas, we've rounded up eight Latin American destinations guaranteed to give you a girlfriends getaway you'll never forget.

01
San Juan, Puerto Rico

San Juan, Puerto Rico

Where to stay: San Juan is home to Puerto Rico's best nightlife and tourist attractions. The El San Juan Hilton (seen here), a hotel on the beach with reasonable rates, also has a casino and private pool cabanas for rent.

Where to party: Hit El San Juan Hotel's Club Brava, a local favorite with Top 40 tunes and bottle service available. For more of a laid-back, downtown vibe, try the Nuyorican Café, which features poetry, drinks, and live music.

What to pack: Beachwear and sunscreen, of course. And in addition to your best looks for a Caribbean night out: mosquito repellent! The bugs come out in strong numbers in Puerto Rico, so stay protected.

When to go: Late Spring or early Summer, before all the tourists descend for Summer and rainy season begins.

02
Acapulco, Mexico

Acapulco, Mexico

Where to stay: Look for beachfront hotels in this Pacific Coast town, like the Copacabana Beach Hotel pictured here, a fun resort usually full of other young people looking for a good time.

Where to party: Nisha is one of the city's newest — and most popular — upscale nightclubs; Baby'O is a tried-and-true favorite, but Palladium is known worldwide for its wild all-nighters and visits from renowned DJs.

What to pack: Laid-back clothing for day and night (flat sandals are fine in the evening, but for the nicer nightclubs, dress up!) and stomach meds, in case you encounter food you're not used to or accidentally drink the tap water (not recommended!).

When to go: April and May or October and November for temps in the high 80s and other fun visitors to party with (during the off-season, the clubs and party scene tend to thin out).

03
Buenos Aires, Argentina

Buenos Aires, Argentina

Where to stay: For more of a sexy, urban vibe, head to Argentina's capital, which feels like South America meets old-world Europe meets New York. The Park Tower is an upscale, sophisticated accommodations option, while The Legado Mitico, seen here, is a more affordable, timeless boutique hotel (with cute decor for group photos).

Where to party: Warning: parties in Argentina can last until breakfast, so party at your own risk. Local favorite boliches, or nightclubs, are Palacio Alsina (a favorite stop for up-and-coming DJs) and Niceto Club, which is located in the Palermo Hollywood district (a great area to wander to discover more clubs, restaurants, and trendy bars and cafes).

What to pack: For those all-nighters, bring flats, in case your feet won't last for hours in killer heels!

When to go: The seasons in Buenos Aires are the opposite of the US; Fall there is March through May, while Spring is September through November. But for gorgeous photos and scenery, visit in October and November, when the gorgeous jacaranda trees are in bloom.

04
Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

Where to stay: Me Cabo and the Bahia Hotel and Beach Club are both favorites for groups of friends having one last pre-wedding-bliss celebration.

Where to party: The Pink Kitty will play your favorite tunes and keep the drinks flowing all night. But Cabo's notorious for its day pool party at Nikki beach (seen here); there's sure to be great music, poolside food, and lots of other brides-to-be.

What to pack: Bring your bathing suit, but keep in mind that the beaches here are a little on the rough-and-rocky side and can be pretty chilly in the Spring and early Summer.

When to go: May and June — before summertime storms — and October and November are the best months to visit, for both a break from crowds and the best weather.

05
Jaco, Costa Rica

Jaco, Costa Rica

Where to stay: Jaco is Costa Rica's nightlife hub; try Morgan's Cove Resort and Casino or the Best Western Jaco Beach Resort, which are both near clubs, restaurants, and activities.

Where to party: The Monkey Bar is a great first stop for your night of partying (one TripAdvisor reviewer calls it "college life, without the college"). Next, hit up Le Loft for the kind of booze-and-fun-filled night on the town that makes a vacation memorable.

What to pack: Sunscreen (the rays are strong here!) and sneakers and clothing for daytime adventures like zip lining and experiencing the country's "Pura Vida."

When to go: Late December through April, the country's dry season and the best time for rain-free sun.

06
Panama City, Panama

Panama City, Panama

Where to stay: The Grand Panama Resort in Panama City Beach, pictured here, is a high-rise right on the Gulf of Mexico, with large rooms perfect for sharing with girlfriends.

Where to party: Panama is known mostly for hosting bachelor parties (thanks, in part, to a season 16 episode of The Bachelor), but bachelorettes are taking over, too. Grab food and drinks at Pineapple Willy's or Schooners. Want to try something other than the typical club scene? You and your crew can rent a sailboat for a day at sea, complete with cocktails (PanamaSailingTours.com has great options).

What to pack: Lightweight clothing. Thanks to its location close to the equator, humidity is high here year-round! And an umbrella; sudden thunderstorms are common.

When to go: February, March, September, and October are the best times to visit for the least chances of rain.

07
Medellín, Colombia

Medellín, Colombia

Where to stay: Find lodging in the El Poblado area, close to nightlife; the Hotel Poblado Plaza and the Charlee Hotel, seen here, are both recommended for fiesta-lovers.

Where to party: Son Habana, a Cuban-themed salsa club, is perfect for dancing the night away; Bendito Seas is a popular spot (with Ladies Night on Thursdays); and Discoteca Luxury spins hip-hop and reggaeton.

What to pack: Nicknamed the city of eternal Spring because of an average annual temperature of 72 degrees, bring your favorite flowy, breezy dresses and a pashmina or light jacket for the evenings.

When to go: Summer in Colombia runs from December through February — or visit in April, for the annual Colombian salsa festival.

08
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Where to stay: Become the girl from Ipanema and stay in the city's famed Ipanema Beach; Hotel Fasano Rio de Janeiro, pictured here, is a favorite for its luxurious rooms, convenient location, and rooftop bar and pool.

Where to party: Many clubs — called Casas de Samba — offer live music and will fill the dance floor with samba dancers, like Democraticos. For more of a dance club mix, try Nuth, which is a cab ride away from Ipanema but worth it for the large size and mixed crowd.

What to pack: Lightweight casual clothing (bring your heels for nighttime!), sunscreen, and mosquito repellent. Also bring a refillable water bottle to stay hydrated and a Portuguese phrasebook (while Spanish is spoken widely, not everyone here speaks English).

When to go: Between December and March, for the best weather. If you want an over-the-top experience (the kind that's going to leave you exhausted, hungover, but so worth it), go during Carnival — the biggest carnival in the world, with around two million people visiting every year — in February for epic parades and parties.
