New Man of Steel Trailer: Superman Is a God, a Ghost, and a Guardian Angel

Director Zack Snyder's Man of Steel is already one of the most highly anticipated movies of the Summer, and the latest trailer makes me even more excited for it.

Director Zack Snyder's Man of Steel is already one of the most highly anticipated movies of the Summer, and the latest trailer makes me even more excited for it. The cryptic first preview finds Clark Kent/Superman (Henry Cavill) struggling with his identity and his place in the world, and while this new one is no less existential, it does show a lot more of the supporting cast. We see Russell Crowe as Jor-El, Superman's real father, in the midst of his planet's destruction, Kevin Costner and Diane Lane as Clark's protective adoptive parents, Michael Shannon in action as villain General Zod, and Amy Adams as intrepid reporter Lois Lane.

Though I was initially skeptical of Adams as Lois, the interaction between her and Superman in the last moments of the trailer is giving me a lot more faith in her casting. I'm also loving the dark but hopeful tone of the movie, which could be a refreshing change of pace from the many other Superman films we've seen before. Man of Steel opens June 14, but until then, watch the new trailer after the jump.

Marion Cotillard Goes Black and White For a Big Night in Paris

Marion Cotillard shed her jacket and braved snow to pose on the red carpet at the César Awards in Paris on Friday.

Marion Cotillard shed her jacket and braved snow to pose on the red carpet at the César Awards in Paris on Friday. She chose yet another Christian Dior gown after wearing a creation by designer Raf Simons to the BAFTAs earlier this month. Marion was nominated for best actress at the French event for her work in Rust and Bone, though the honor went to Amour's Emmanuelle Riva. Other big winners included Marion's Rust and Bone costar Matthias Schoenaerts in the most promising male newcomer category and Argo for best foreign film. Kevin Costner was honored with a lifetime achievement award and accepted his statue, saying, "Merci, bonsoir. There's no hiding I'm an American. Thank you for seeing me for who I am." He was joined by wife Christine Baumgartner for the award show, which is France's equivalent of the Oscars.

Casting Update: Who's in For Man of Steel

The principal cast of Man of Steel, Zack Snyder's new Superman movie, is getting more exciting by the week.

The principal cast of Man of Steel, Zack Snyder's new Superman movie, is getting more exciting by the week. We've known for months that The Tudors star Henry Cavill had nabbed the lead role, with Amy Adams beating out tons of other actresses to play his leading lady, but the rest of the characters are still being cast. With all the rumors running rampant, it can be hard to keep track of who's playing who, so here's a rundown on which actors will bring the beloved comic to the big screen in the newest reboot.

  • British import Henry Cavill will play Clark Kent/Superman. Born Kal-El from the planet Krypton, Superman is an alien who battles evil when he's not disguised as his alter ego, Clark Kent. Clark works as a reporter for The Daily Planet.
  • Amy Adams will play Lois Lane, Clark's love interest and fellow reporter at The Daily Planet.
  • Russell Crowe is in talks to star as Jor-El, Superman's birth father.
  • Kevin Costner will play Jonathan Kent, Superman's adoptive father.
  • Diane Lane is Martha Kent, Superman's adoptive mom and Jonathan's wife.
  • Michael Shannon will square off against Superman as the villainous General Zod, the head of the Krypton military.
  • German actress Antje Traue has been cast as female villain Faora.
  • Julia Ormond is attached to play Lara, Superman's birth mother.
  • Laurence Fishburne will play Perry White, Clark Kent's editor at The Daily Planet.

Superman fans, how do you feel about the cast?

Halle Berry joined stars including Superman's new dad Kevin Costner, Kelly Clarkson, and a slimmed-down Jordin Sparks in Phoenix, AZ, for the annual Celebrity Fight Night awards ceremony on Saturday. The actress was without her boyfriend, Olivier Martinez, at the dinner, but did plant a kiss on Muhammad Ali, who hosts the yearly event. Halle made her way to the desert after shooting her role in New Year's Eve in NYC earlier this month and throwing her daughter, Nahla, a beachside third birthday party in LA just last week.

Kevin Costner Will Get Fatherly in Superman

The Superman cast continues to come together.

The Superman cast continues to come together. After hot Brit import Henry Cavill snagged the role of the caped superhero, Diane Lane was cast as his mother figure, Martha Kent. Now he has his father: Kevin Costner has been cast as Jonathan Kent, Martha's husband and the man who discovers infant Kal-El and raises him as his own.

Costner had been rumored to be attached, but today Warner Bros. and Snyder confirmed the deal, with Snyder saying that "Kevin will be able to communicate the quiet strength of this rural American man who raised the greatest superhero of all time." I'm happy about Costner's involvement, but I'm still champing at the bit for one bit of casting news. Who will play Lois Lane?

Who's the Hottest Robin Hood?

This Friday, Russell Crowe will show off his handiwork with a bow and arrow in the new, action-packed Robin Hood.

This Friday, Russell Crowe will show off his handiwork with a bow and arrow in the new, action-packed Robin Hood. He's hardly the first to steal from the rich and give to the poor, though: over the years we've seen the costume transform as different actors have stepped into the role. My personal favorite Robin Hood movie has got to be Men in Tights, but there's no denying that Kevin Costner looked pretty good under all that armor. We'll have to wait until Friday to see how Crowe does with the accent and sword fighting, but based on aesthetics alone — who's the hottest Robin?
