The Incredible Burt Wonderstone follows the life of a man who aims to leave people in awe, and while the movie itself doesn't reach those kinds of heights, it is a comedy with a few laughs and a cast that wins you over. Steve Carell headlines as title character Burt Wonderstone, a Vegas Strip mainstay whose flashy shtick has grown tired. Steve Buscemi plays his stage partner Anton, and when their act is challenged by flagging ticket sales and newer, more modern competitors, the two childhood best friends have a falling out, leaving Burt to rediscover his touch. Burt's road to a comeback is entertaining and full of goofiness that's quite dumb but still amusing.
The silliness of the movie is balanced out by how irreverent its sense of humor is. This is best demonstrated by Jim Carrey's character Steve Gray, a Criss Angel-like street magician more interested in shocking the masses than dazzling them. The gags ring true, and the observations about the business of magic are sharp and give The Incredible Burt Wonderstone an edge — not just an excuse to put the actors in ridiculous costumes. Olivia Wilde has made the sultry smoky eye her go-to makeup look, and at last night's The Incredible Burt Wonderstone premiere she updated the classic style with a metallic spin.
First makeup artist Melanie Inglessis used a wet sponge to apply foundation and blush for a dewy complexion. Next she applied Revlon PhotoReady Eye Primer ($10) as a base. Inglessis started to add color by drawing a thick black line around the top and bottom lash line using Colorstay Eyeliner ($7). "It doesn't have to be perfect, as it will be blended," Inglessis explains. "The darker around the rim of the eyes, the sexier the eyes will look."
Once Olivia's eyes were lined, Inglessis used the Torch Smoky Shadow Stick ($9) on the lids and underneath the eye. She then topped the cream with a burgundy shade from the Revlon Colorstay Eyeshadow Quad in Precocious ($8). "The trick to a good smoky eye is blending," Inglessis says. "Blend all of the colors with a medium or small brush. I like to blend a smoky eye with a strong but light shimmer eye shadow on the outside and inner corner of the eyes for brightness." She used the Diamond Lust Eye Shadow in Starry Pink ($5). She finished the look with a touch of mascara and a dab of baby-pink lip color. This classic look works for anyone with or without a red carpet affair.
