Definition of Hyperpigmentation

Definition: Hyperpigmentation

Hyperpigmentation is the darkening of patches of skin or nails due to ramped-up melanin production, resulting in blotchy looking skin, "raccoon" under-eye circles, and uneven skin tone. Although hyperpigmentation is common across the board, it's especially prevalent in women of South Asian, East Asian, Mediterranean, or African heritage — so almost everyone.

It's a natural part of aging, and although hydroquinine or other dangerous lightening products might be tempting, resist the urge. Instead, use a spot brightening serum like DDF's convenient little Discoloration Reversal-PODs ($72), moisturizer, a wide-spectrum sunblock, and your favorite foundation. You'll get similar results without harming your health.

Oh, man. I've struggled with this, too, and written a few blog posts about what's worked (or not). My two cents: Murad's Essential C Brightening Set did a world of good when my dark spots were at their worst (http://www.shop.com/Murad+Hyperpigmentation+Treatment+Set-305723611-p+.xhtml) . StriVectin's Overnight Facial Resurfacing Serum helps with regular maintenance (http://www.shop.com/StriVectin+Overnight+Facial+Resurfacing+Serum+9+fl+oz-243518453-s0-e0-p+.xhtml) A fellow blogger had good luck with Clinique's Even Better Clinical Spot Remover (http://theshoppingvine.com/?p=32091) And finally, the advice given to me by a make-up artist: Get a good bronzer. It will help the pigmented parts blend in naturally. I use Physician's Formula Healthy Wear b/c it has SPF 50 (http://www.shop.com/Physicians+Formula+Healthy+Wear+Bronzer+Natural-355059190-p+.xhtml) It's not a substitute for a full-spectrum sunscreen, but it can't hurt.

I agree vally521, Korres skin care products are great for treating hyperpigmentation. And the rose smell is just luxurious. I used to have terrible dark circles under my eyes and after about 5 weeks of using my clearasonic and Korres moisturizer, they're gone. I haven't worn concealer in months.

Korres skincare has a line of proucts containing Wild Rose. It can be very effective in treating hyperpigmentation. Plus, it's all natural so you don't have to worry about the harsh chemicals. I've used the Wild Rose mask and it really does lighten and brighten! Oh and the prices on Korres products are very affordable.
