TikToker Monet McMichael, a beauty influencer who has over 3.8 million followers on the app, uses several products from the brand in her go-to makeup routine. I'm a fan of the Lash-Amplifying Mascara for a naturally enhanced look, and once I learned how many people adore the Hydrating Lip Treatment Oil ($20), I was eager to try it out.

I have high standards when it comes to lip products, which I've discovered since the rise of the lip oil trend. I'm picky when it comes to texture, hydration, and color payoff, and if one aspect is off, it's an automatic no for me. But when Aavrani founder Rooshy Roy listed Ami Colé Hydrating Lip Treatment Oil as a must have, describing it as "kind of like a skin-care product in addition to a cosmetic product," I was officially convinced. With all this high praise, I knew it was time to see if the lip oil was worth the hype.

I have extremely dry lips, to the point where I can peel off a layer like I'm a snake (thank you, Accutane), and Ami Colé's Hydrating Lip Treatment Oil is so effective that I use it more than my actual lip balms. It has a thick, goopy texture that glides smoothly onto my lips and delivers a deep conditioning feel. At first, it may seem like the product is just sitting on your lips topically, but within minutes, the hydration penetrates, slowly softening the lips for a healthier, nonsticky feel. Because of its thicker texture, the hydration is actually pretty long-lasting — I can go a few hours without reapplying.

As the brand states, the shades are supposed to be sheer, complementing all skin tones. I tested out each of the shades on its own without any other lip product. In analyzing the swatches above, I feel like they're all suitable for my skin tone, without the need for lip liner or another product to finish the look. My personal favorites are Excellence, Romance, and 5/17, if I want a bit of sparkle. These shades don't wash me out, while the brighter tints like Romance and Smitten aren't too bold. These lip oils deliver the perfect wash of color and versatility, no matter what look I'm going for.

Just like most lip oils or balmy glosses, Ami Colé's Hydrating Lip Treatment can be worn by itself or with other lip products. Use the flat end of the angled doe-foot applicator and swipe it all over your lips. You'll notice that the ridges on the wand help with even product distribution. Since it's thick and hydrating like a protective balm, it can replace your lip balm with an added glossy finish or wash of color. You can also top off your lipstick with the lip oil for a high-shine effect or pair it with a lip liner for that effortless, TikTok-famous gym lip.

These lip oils have a thicker, balm-like feel compared to other lip oils. Although it's not sticky, it has more of a viscous texture and does not have oil-like slippage. If you prefer a weightless feel, this product may not be an ideal fit. However, this is great for those with drier lips who like an intense balm feel.

Because of the packaging, you may face a bit of resistance when you attempt to maneuver the lip oil wand from its tube. I suggest applying a bit of force while trying to screw the wand closed and removing the wand from of the container slowly, so that the product doesn't splatter.
