Leslie Jones Quits Twitter After Being Attacked by Racist Trolls

Leslie Jones — accomplished actor and comedian, regular player on Saturday Night Live, star of a blockbuster movie this Summer — quit Twitter after spending much of Monday retweeting a barrage of racist insults hurled at her. This all comes weeks after Leslie tweeted about designers refusing to dress her for the Ghostbusters premiere. Aside from being ridiculously talented, Leslie has said some truly inspiring things, making this whole situation all the more disheartening. Leslie is so lovely, in fact, that it's actually hard to find a picture of her in which she's not smiling. You can see Leslie's tweets below, but just know that some of the language is graphic — and we're not even including some of the worst that she retweeted.

She started by rationally saying she would block any inappropriate stuff.

Then got fed up.

She then decided to expose the people messaging her.

And here are some of the tweets.

Here's a particularly evil one.

Jones's brother died in 2009.

This is only a VERY small portion of the hate.

The hashtag #LoveForLeslieJ started trending, and her Ghostbusters director Paul Feig chimed in.

Margaret Cho also backed her.

As did Kristin Davis.

Here is her poignant, emotional response — in full, as of Monday evening.

Sending all our #LoveForLeslieJ right now.
