Editors' Picks: Entertainment Must Haves For February

February may be kind of drab in terms of weather, but things are poppin' on the big and small screens all month long. You may have heard of a small phenomenon called Fifty Shades of Grey? Well, the movie is coming out on the same day as a very buzzy action movie starring Colin Firth. Speaking of movies, as any award season aficionado can tell you, the Oscars are coming up! Before they take over Hollywood, the Grammys will be calling out the very best in music. Take a look below to get the scoop on these events, plus more to look forward to in February!

Jupiter Ascending

The Wachowskis will finally be able to show whether they can give us a worthy follow-up to The Matrix with this sci-fi release, out Feb. 6. Mila Kunis and Channing Tatum (and his blond beard and elf ears) star as the leads in this space-set love story, but we're honestly even more excited to see Oscar nominee Eddie Redmayne as an outer space villain.

The Grammys

The Grammys, airing Feb. 8, are always a crazy showcase of red carpet looks and innovative performances — in fact, this year will feature some interesting performing duos. Sure, we want to see who wins the biggest honors in music, but we're most excited because this is the award show where anything can happen.

The Walking Dead

The Walking Dead

AMC's zombie-pocalypse hit comes back on Feb. 8, and it'll be our reunion with the series ever since that devastating death. The trailer for the return teased some more intensity (when is it not?), but let's be honest: we're also watching to see if anything happens between Daryl and Carol.

New Midseason TV
NBC

New Midseason TV

It's still early in 2015, but this time of year signifies the midpoint in the traditional TV season known as midseason. A smaller crop of shows will debut over the next couple of months, and we've got our eyes on a few. NBC's The Slap is the TV show with a concept so simple you just have to see it to believe it. American Horror Story's Lily Rabe is bring her otherworldly charm to The Whispers, and Fox, already a midseason winner with Empire, will also debut Backstrom and The Last Man on Earth, to name a few.

Better Call Saul
AMC

Better Call Saul

It seems like ages since Breaking Bad left us, but we'll get a reunion of sorts with the series when the spinoff about Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) debuts Feb. 8. Walt and Jesse may not be around in the prequel, but there's still plenty we know about the show to get you excited.

Kingsman: The Secret Service

Colin Firth: superspy? Of course, I'm into this movie! Based on a comic book series, the movie has been earning really positive buzz — which is frankly refreshing to hear in the wasteland of January and February new releases. Who wouldn't want to see Firth kicking ass and a somewhat ridiculous-looking Samuel L. Jackson as the film's villain? Plus, Taron Egerton as a newcomer to the spy biz looks like my future crush. The movie opens Feb. 13.

Fifty Shades of Grey

Fifty Shades of Grey

As if you didn't already know that Feb. 13 is the release of Fifty Shades of Grey? As if you haven't had your calendar marked for months? Like you didn't already purchase your ticket to the highly anticipated E L James adaptation? Like you don't already have a poster with Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson's faces pasted to your cubicle? Please.

The Oscars
ABC

The Oscars

The big kahuna of award shows is taking place on Feb. 22 this year. Host extraordinaire Neil Patrick Harris will (hopefully) delight the audience with a night full of surprises and borderline-inappropriate jokes. Plus: dancing?! Also, don't forget that the Spirit Awards will honor the best indie films the night before. Stay tuned for more coverage!

House of Cards
Netflix

House of Cards

Last season of House of Cards left off on such an insane note: Frank Underwood is about to be the president of the United States. Come Feb. 27, we'll get to see what he does with his newfound power. How will Claire cope with being the first lady? Will Frank actually make a good president, now that he's reached the top of the political ladder? And most importantly, where will he get his ribs now that his favorite BBQ is gone?
