Once Upon a Time: An Important Relationship Update on the Main Couples

If there's one thing we love about Once Upon a Time — aside from the elegant costumes, the magical tales, and the nonstop drama — it's the relationships. There are a few main couples that we're concerned about going into season five, so we asked the actors about them during interviews at Comic-Con. Now that Emma has gone dark, everyone's world could be thrown into a tailspin. But let's not speculate! Here's what the stars had to say about their upcoming arcs. Once you're all caught up, make sure you're well-versed on all the season five details.

Snow and Charming

Once Upon a Time's most enchanting couple is going strong in season five, but that could change quickly given that their firstborn has gone dark. "We're going to be tested," Ginnifer Goodwin said. "You can bet on some tension," Josh Dallas added. Both agreed that their relationship will be deeply strained as they each go about trying to bring Emma back.

Regina and Robin Hood

This couple is being tested in a major way, since Robin Hood has been tricked into impregnating Zelena. The good news is that both Sean Maguire and Lana Parrilla are sure their characters will get though the rough patch: "They have already been through so much that if I was a betting man I would say they're probably going to stay together," Maguire said. "It's a complicated one," Parrilla added. "Regina is handling this in a very mature way. It's an unfortunate circumstance. I think what we saw in those last episodes is Regina saying, 'We are going to have this baby but you are going to be under watch.' Robin is going to have the relationship with the baby, but you are on parole for the rest of your life."

Belle and Mr. Gold
ABC

"I would be surprised if the writers let this relationship go," Robert Carlyle said. "I wouldn't expect too much from it in the first half of the season; I get a feeling that it'll be more in the second half of the season." That's understandable, given that Mr. Gold is basically out of commission. "It's pretty hard to communicate because he's in a coma," Emilie de Ravin joked. "It's just a lot of journal entries for Belle."

Emma and Hook
ABC

Emma and Hook

Emma and Hook are the ones we should be the most worried about this season, since Emma has officially gone dark. Having said that, Colin O'Donoghue is pretty confident that Hook is in it for the long haul. "It's really difficult for Hook because he spent most of last season trying to protect her from the darkness," he said. "He is fully invested in being in love with Emma and he'll do whatever it takes to bring back the woman that he loves. It's going to be about figuring out a way to bring Emma back."
