Judy King Has an Insane Storyline on Orange Is the New Black Season 5

A whole new dynamic was added to Orange Is the New Black when a Martha Stewart-esque cooking show celebrity, Judy King (Blair Brown), ended up behind bars. In season three, Judy is convicted for tax evasion and the inmates at Litchfield Penitentiary cheered as they watched her sentence on television. A little publicity for the prison? They're all for it! But things quickly change when Judy, equipped with a Paula Deen Southern accent, starts getting special treatment right off the bat. In season five, Judy is set to be released from prison early, but it doesn't go as planned.

What does Judy get that the other inmates don't? Well, everything. Joe Caputo was worried that she would leave the prison with only bad things to say about it, so it was important to make her happy in order to avoid negative attention — especially since Caputo is trying to prove himself in his new head role. So that special treatment extends to getting a larger, private room with a handpicked roommate, Yoga Jones. Judy also gets better meals, as well as a seltzer maker. And after a racist puppet show incident, a corrections officer is set to accompany her at all times. At this point, Judy is sitting pretty in prison.

A total riot breaks out at Litchfield in the finale of season four when Caputo doesn't properly acknowledge the events that led to Poussey Washington's death — in fact, he doesn't even say her name. This sends her friends, Taystee, Cindy, and Janae, as well as other inmates, into a frenzy. When we go into season five, there's a gun being held on a CO as he begs for his life on his knees. Yeah, complete chaos. Judy is set to be released early so she's not involved in it all.

But the prison is on lockdown with no one going in or out without key inmates' allowance. It's not long before people start noticing Judy's value, and three white nationalists, along with Yoga Jones and Anita DeMarco, hold her captive. To ensure she won't escape, they tie a wooden plank horizontally across her arms and shoulder blades. She looks like Jesus on the cross with her arms straight out to the side — surely not a mistake. Judy lies to buy herself time and says she has a drop-off of supplies on the roof. They bring her to the roof and a helicopter with cameras captures some interesting shots of Judy and the other inmates.

Taystee and her friends write a speech for Judy to say in front of the press outside of Litchfield because they think her celebrity status will hold weight to their better conditions demands and give Poussey the recognition she deserves. But when the time comes, Taystee decides she can't let Judy speak for the inmates because she's not the average inmate. After delivering a tearful recount of Poussey's death, Taystee lets Judy go free.

Later on, Judy is invited on television to talk about her prison experience. Little does she know that former inmate Aleida Diaz is also there. And during the interview on air, Judy lets it slip that there was a shooting in Litchfield and describes Aleida's daughter, Daya, as the culprit.

If you ask me, this isn't the last we'll see of Judy. Her role in season five goes beyond just being the rich lady who got high and had a threesome with Yoga Jones and Litchfield's electrical manager Joel Luschek (which we still can't get over, to be honest). We don't rule out that she may make another TV appearance on the show and divulge more about what happens inside Litchfield's cinderblock walls. I guess we'll see what happens in season six, darling!
