Every John Green Book Ranked, Because Your Summer Needs All the YA Love

Green teams up with Maureen Johnson and Lauren Myracle to create some holiday magic in the sweet three-part novella Let It Snow. Each of the interconnected stories focuses on teens finding love on the snowiest day of the year in their small town. This book is sweet, if a bit inconsequential. It's perfect for the holiday season, but it doesn't reach the soaring heights of some of Green's other efforts. However, now is the perfect time to read it since it's going to be a Netflix movie soon.

Turtles All the Way Down is nothing if not ambitious. Two friends, Aza and Daisy, are chasing a potentially massive payout if they can track down a mysterious billionaire, giving this story an adventure element. But it's also an unexpectedly harrowing exploration of what it's like to live with OCD. The mental health aspect is done well, but it lacks the narrative cohesiveness of the author's other works. Overall, it's an important read — just not the first Green novel you'd want to grab from your shelf.

The quirk factor is strong with this one. An Abundance of Katherines tells the story a former child prodigy's quest to create a formula for love after being dumped by 19 different girls named Katherine. Add in a road trip with his slacker best friend, and you have a fun coming-of-age novel about stepping outside your comfort zone. It's zippy, a bit odd, but ultimately full of heart and a youthful energy that will keep you turning the pages until you reach the story's somewhat inevitable (but nonetheless charming) conclusion.

Green teams up with David Levithan for Will Grayson, Will Grayson the story of two boys named Will whose very different lives collide and are much better for it. One Will is struggling with depression, while the other is coming to terms with his sexuality. Both of them are easy to relate to and an utter joy to read about. This isn't a Green novel that will leave you sobbing, but it will leave you with a massive grin on your face.

On the surface, Margo is the quintessential manic pixie dream girl, but as Paper Towns unfolds, both the story's protagonist, Q, and the reader begin to see people are more than tropes. When the enigmatic Margo disappears, Q and his friends set out to find her in a quest that's as funny as it is poignant. But it's in the actual finding of Margo where the book sings, because this unusual girl's life proves to be far more complex and sad than Q and his friends could ever imagine.

Everything that people love about Green can be found in Looking For Alaska. First of all, the writing is so stunning it will make you ache. Just from a prose standpoint, this is a beautiful novel. That's not to knock the story though. This is a tale of love, grief, and all the strange ways it twists together. Once you read this novel of first loves and boarding school adventures, it will stay with you forever.

What else could be number one but The Fault in Our Stars? Augustus and Hazel's love story won over a generation of fans. These two teens are so much more than the critical illnesses they're facing. They're beautiful souls who change each other's lives in the most wondrous ways. This is the book that made Green a household name for a reason: it's just that good. Just make sure you have all of the tissues on hand. No, seriously, all of them.
