Kate Hudson Confirms Her Debut Album Is Coming Out Next Year

Actor, entrepreneur, mom of three, certified rom-com queen — there are few accolades that have managed to evade Kate Hudson. Even so, the multifaceted star is still managing to surprise us. In a Dec. 12 appearance on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," Hudson confirmed that her debut album is officially on its way. "I've been making a record for a year," she said on the show.

Hudson explained that the final push to record an album came early in the pandemic. Though she had always scoffed when asked about her career regrets in interviews ("I'm [in my] early 40s. Not yet."), during that time, Hudson realized that she would indeed regret not pursuing her interest in music. She told Fallon, "I actually write. I've been writing music since I was 19, and I've never shared it. And so I just thought that would be one of my great regrets."

Though she made her name in acting, Hudson said music is one of her true passions. "I love to sing," she said. (Fans of hers may already know this from her performance in Sia's 2021 film "Music," or her doo-wop cover of Ariana Grande's "7 Rings" back in January.) "I have no expectations. I just want to put a record out, and so I'm doing it."

Hudson originally teased the album in April, with a photo of herself midrehearsal, singing on stage with a guitarist and cameraman. "Finally realized it's time to say f#%! it and saaaannngg!!!!!" Hudson captioned the picture, along with hashtags "#albumincoming" and "#myikigai" — a Japanese term for something that gives life meaning or purpose.

From her "Tiny Dancer" sing-along in "Almost Famous" to her unforgettable "You're So Vain" duet in "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days," Hudson has never been afraid to belt it out. Now that new music is officially confirmed, her album can't come soon enough, but as she revealed to Fallon, we'll have to wait just a little while longer for the record to finally drop in 2023.
