How to Get Away With Murder: 7 Theories For Who Killed Rebecca

How to Get Away With Murder is premiering its second season, and while we did find out who Lila's killer is, we have a whole new mystery to stress about: who killed Rebecca?! The end of last season's finale leaves Annalise and Frank standing over her body. And while they both deny it, either one could easily be lying. Taking into account these two, plus Bonnie, plus Annalise's four guilty students, we have seven suspects. So, who did it? Keep reading as we investigate all of the evidence.

01
Michaela Pratt
ABC

Michaela Pratt

  • Motive: Michaela tells Rebecca point blank that her life is ruined and it's all Rebecca's fault. Micheala has lost her wedding ring, her future husband, and so much more. It would make sense that she'd want to get even.
  • Evidence: She's easily the most aggressive of the bunch when it comes to Rebecca. She's the one who wants to track her down. She's the one who backhands Rebecca and who threatens to destroy her. Perhaps, in the end, she keeps to her word.
  • Conclusion: Michaela is the most likely suspect.
02
Laurel Castillo
ABC

Laurel Castillo

  • Motive: Much like everyone, Laurel has personal stakes in this situation. The thing is, though, she's more caught up in it. She's been snooping on Rebecca with Wes for a week or so. She sees what Rebecca did to Rudy.
  • Evidence: We know Laurel has had Michaela's ring this whole time, and she's managed to keep it a secret. That means she's good at hiding things, and she's not afraid to act if it means protecting herself. She's also the one who tries to keep Wes quiet while they investigate Rebecca.
  • Conclusion: Laurel is definitely a suspect.
03
Annalise Keating
ABC

Annalise Keating

  • Motive: This one's easy. Although Wes kills Sam, it's possible Annalise blames Rebecca for his death. Plus, Rebecca threatens to turn all of them in, which would not only put Annalise's practice in danger, but her life too.
  • Evidence: Annalise knows Rebecca's dead, and she helps set up the whole "Rebecca escaped" narrative. If she's involving herself in the aftermath, there's a chance she's involved in the murder as well. Maybe she denies it to Frank, but she's a known liar. She'll do whatever she can to bend stories to her favor.
  • Conclusion: Annalise might have done it.
04
Wes Gibbins
ABC

Wes Gibbins

  • Motive: Wes has been betrayed by Rebecca, and the only way he finds out is by building evidence against her behind her back. That sort of betrayal can run deep, especially since Wes is the one who kills Sam to protect Rebecca.
  • Evidence: First of all, Wes kills Sam, so we know he's capable. Also, we see him standing over Rebecca's empty chair shortly after she "escapes." Plus, think about how freaked out he is at the end! Could it be guilt from killing Rebecca? The only thing absolving him at this point is the fact that he says he believes Rebecca shortly before her death.
  • Conclusion: It's entirely possible Wes did it, but he's not a prime suspect.
05
Frank Delfino
ABC

Frank Delfino

  • Motive: Frank doesn't necessarily need a motive. He's proven he'll do whatever he's told. If someone told him to dispose of Rebecca, there's a chance he'd do it.
  • Evidence: Considering Frank is the one who kills Lila, it's easy to see how he might murder Rebecca as well. Plus, we're not sure if Annalise knows Frank is Lila's murderer. This explains why he'd want to cover up his involvement in Rebecca's murder too.
  • Conclusion: Frank is absolutely a suspect.
06
Connor Walsh
ABC

Connor Walsh

  • Motive: Connor has consistently freaked out the most about Sam's murder. He goes into full-on meltdown mode in the wake of the crime. Considering Rebecca threatens to turn them all in, Connor would want to act in any way to protect himself.
  • Evidence: There's actually not a lot of evidence to implicate Connor. There's not a notable moment where he's alone with Rebecca, he spends most of the episode preoccupied with his STD test results, and he seems pretty calm with Oliver at the end.
  • Conclusion: Connor probably didn't do it.
07
Bonnie Winterbottom
ABC

Bonnie Winterbottom

  • Motive: Bonnie often likes to try to "take care of things" for Annalise, so it's possible she eliminated Rebecca to get back on Annalise's good side.
  • Evidence: Bonnie hasn't been very involved in the entire Lila murder plot line, and there's not a lot of factual proof to pin the murder on her.
  • Conclusion: Bonnie probably didn't do it.
