A Guide to Wearing Thigh-High Socks, as Demonstrated by Taylor Swift

While we've always been fans of the Taylor Swift's classic-cute style, we've now noticed a pattern when it comes to her wardrobe — the girl loves her thigh-high socks.

In fact, she's been rocking this in-between look for years now (she was even photographed wearing them in 2010), and we're not gonna lie, we're kind of digging it. So, while the weather permits, we're planning on giving it a try — using Ms. 1989 as our guide, of course. Scroll through to let the master show you how it's done.

Taylor loves to wear her thigh-highs with shorts — it's kind of become somewhat of a signature look. To pull this off IRL, make sure your bottoms are short enough to show a good portion of your leg and pair them with similar-colored shoes. This will help to elongate your stems, rather than cut them off.

Normally, we wouldn't think this look would work, but somehow, Taylor pulls it off. It's OK to match your thigh-highs to your bowler hat or other accessory, but just be sure to keep the rest of your outfit polished and preppy. Sticking to solids will also keep it chic rather than shocking.

Thigh-highs are a great way to spice up even the most basic of body-cons. If it's not too chilly, thigh-high socks, instead of full-length tights, can transform a simple, striped number into an unexpectedly fashion-forward look.

While our attention was originally drawn to Taylor's cat Olivia, we're loving this '90s-girl-inspired look. (Very Cher from Clueless, no?) Break out that plaid mini and add socks, heeled loafers, and a solid shirt. Bag-wise, opt for something structured to avoid looking childish, and keep all other accessories to a minimum.

This photo is from 2010 (to put it in perspective, those were the Jake Gyllenhaal days), but the look is still relevant. Give your LBD a fun, new twist by throwing on a pair of long black socks. Not sure what to do about shoes? The same color booties will create a sleek, seamless look.
