McDonald's is completely revamping its McCafé brand in 2017, an upgrade expected to include new espresso machines, more seasonal beverages, and more affordable deals all across the board. The fast-food chain is seeking to tap into the coffee-lover's market dominated by the likes of Starbucks and Dunkin' Donuts, and it's willing to pay $12,000 apiece for new coffee machines to do so.

Though the McCafé lineup includes lattes, hot chocolates, and frappes, the purchase of brand-new espresso machines means a wider variety of drinks will be offered, all made with more consistency. These upgrades are part of an ongoing push to make McDonald's a more viable competitor to Starbucks, its Seattle-based counterpart. Earlier this year, the burger chain announced it would begin procuring its coffee beans from more sustainable sources.

McDonald's will continue focusing on its most notable advantage — the crazy-low prices — over its more expensive competitors (we're looking at you, $4.25 Starbucks PSL). A $1 drip coffee and $2 small specialty beverage deal will be offered during the first quarter of 2017, according to Bloomberg.

If McDonald's continues the trend of wowing us with its recent drinks like the PSL and peppermint mocha, then this anticipated upgrade is sure to knock us out of the water. Coffee-obsessed hipsters on a budget, rejoice! This is a cause for celebration.
