Taco Bell read the crazed tweets, heard the impassioned requests, and saw the widespread petitions — and now, the fast-food chain is finally bringing back its beloved Mexican Pizza. After disappearing from menus in November 2020, the fan-favorite dish will permanently return nearly two years later on May 19. Get your hot-sauce packets ready.

Doja Cat, who's collaborated with Taco Bell in the past, announced the news during her Coachella set on April 17: "I brought back the Mexican Pizza, by the way!" Earlier this year, the rapper posted a TikTok video in which she rapped a few original bars about her love for the Mexican Pizza; she's also tweeted about it.

First introduced in 1985, Taco Bell's Mexican Pizza features seasoned beef and/or refried beans layered between two crispy flour-tortilla shells and topped with pizza sauce, diced tomatoes, and melted cheese. The option to order it sans meat made the menu item a popular choice among vegetarians, including Krish Jagirdar, who organized a Change.org petition for its return.

In a press release, Jagirdar said, "Like many Indian-Americans who grew up vegetarian, we had limited access to the 'fun' fast food, so Taco Bell became a bridge to belonging in American culture for many kids like me who grew up in immigrant households. That's what made it especially devastating when the Mexican Pizza was pulled from menus in 2020, but fast forward two years later and I found myself on a conference call with the Taco Bell team as they shared news of the return of the Mexican Pizza."

Taco Bell rewards-program members will have early access and can order the Mexican Pizza starting May 17, while all other customers will be able to get their hands on the saucy goodness starting May 19. Food-delivery services will begin offering it shortly after, on May 27. So, who's up for an at-home Mexican Pizza party? We'll bring the Baja Blasts.
