If you missed out on jet setting to London for the Christmas dinner that Warner Bros. Studio hosted in the Great Hall at Hogwarts, your Harry Potter holiday fantasy can still come true! It's actually super easy to re-create the magic of the holiday feast right in your dining room – floating candles, Winter snow, and all. Here's how to pull it off!

Bust Out Your Basic Whites

Styling a Winter-white tablescape is a win-win for many reasons. You can pull together all of your basic white dinnerware and table linens without worrying if pieces will clash, and because white is so versatile, you can count on using all of these pieces again and again. To create this look, we used a white linen tablecloth and napkins from Williams-Sonoma, white dinner plates and serving platters we already owned, and white roses and hydrangeas from Trader Joe's.

Hang Floating Candles

This elegant version of the floating candles at Hogwarts was ridiculously easy to re-create. All it took was some fishing line from the hardware store and these glass candle holders and tealight candles from CB2.

Here's what you do:

  • Place the unlit tealights in the candleholders.
  • Loop the fishing line through the tops of the candle holders.
  • Tie the other end to a chandelier above the dining table and secure it with a super tight double knot. To avoid an accident, have one person hold the candleholder to the desired height while another person ties the fishing line to the chandelier.
  • Hang each one at varying heights so that you can see each candleholder at eye level.
  • Light your tealights, and voilà!
Stack Harry Potter Books

Stack Harry Potter Books

To add visual interest and depth to your table, break out your trusty Harry Potter tomes. Place small stacks of your books at either end of the table and layer them with decorative objects like a vase filled with Winter white flowers.

Add Ambient Lighting

Add Ambient Lighting

Sure, you'll have your floating candles overhead, but flood the table with additional soft lighting to really set the mood. Place glass hurricanes filled with glowing pillar candles around the table and transform a glass cloche into an enchanting centerpiece. Holding a glass cloche upside down, place copper wire lights inside with the battery box hanging out, and begin layering the cloche with snow-kissed pine cones (just top them with white spray paint), metallic ornaments and your baby scrolls, place a Harry Potter book on top and flip it over.

Accessorize With Harry Potter Flair

Besides working in stacks of Harry Potter books, you can also accessorize with some simple DIYs and any Harry Potter mementos you have on hand. Here are some of our favorite ideas:

  • Tear several pages from a secondhand copy of a Harry Potter book, roll them up, and tie them with twine to make mini scrolls to place around the table.
  • Slip these adorable DIY Weasley sweater wine cozies around your wine bottles.
  • Own a wand? We thought you might. Lean it against your stack of Harry Potter books for extra flair or in the center of each place setting if you have enough (we won't judge)!
  • Adorn each setting with a Christmas cracker that guests can pop after the holiday feast.
Top Off With Snow

Top Off With Snow

To capture the Winter wonderland effect of Hogwarts during the holidays, grab a bag of glistening fake snow and generously sprinkle it down the center of your table for an awe-inspiring final touch.
